ContentBlocks ContentBlocks 2.x User Guide Editing Content
ContentBlocks replaces the standard content field on a resource with a visual editor called the canvas. Here you build pages from layouts and content blocks your site builder has configured.
Table of Contents
Opening the editor
- Open a resource in the MODX manager.
- Find the Content area on the edit screen (location depends on your site setup — it may replace the content field or appear in a Content tab).
- If you don’t see the canvas, make sure “Use ContentBlocks” on the Settings tab is enabled.
Saving
Click Save on the resource as usual. Your layout and block content is saved with the page. Unsaved changes may be highlighted (a red indicator on edited blocks) depending on your site configuration.
What you are editing
- Layouts define the column structure of your page (single column, two columns, etc.).
- Blocks are individual content pieces (text, images, videos, etc.) placed inside layout columns.
Your site builder controls which layouts and blocks are available. You cannot add new block types yourself — only use what appears in the Add Content modal.
Next steps
- Using the Canvas — add, arrange, and configure blocks
- Publishing Blocks — schedule content to appear or disappear
